Great Dog Training Tips That Can Work For Your Dog!

Establish where your dogs resting and eating areas are, and dont let him take control of your home. Prevent him from getting in the habit of sleeping in high traffic areas and confiscating sofas and comfy chairs, by redirecting him to his own resting area whenever you find him in the way. Dont make a big production number of this. Just move him along.

When training your dog, you must establish a schedule and provide some consistency. It is important to have a routine and to reinforce the actions you want the dog to learn. By repeating the actions over and over, and providing reinforcement, the dog will quickly learn what they are supposed to do.

Training your dog to walk on lead takes time. The idea is to have your dog walk obediently beside you without straining, tugging, and pulling from side to side. Correct your dogs movement with short snaps of the lead that pull sharply and abruptly back against his momentum. He will stop pulling and walk complacently for a time beside you. During this time loosen the lead but when he pulls again snap the lead again.

In order to keep your dog interested, be sure to use some kind of reward system in your training. When youre first starting out with a command food treats work well. As training progresses you can use his favorite toy and eventually verbal praise will be a reward for a job well done.

Make sure that when your dog does something correctly or when they just happen to act in a favorable manner that they are properly rewarded. Rewards can increase good behavioral changes. Try allowing your dog a treat or a new toy when they act in a favorable manner. They will eventually keep doing it.

Use the shake-can method of training. Put a few coins in an empty soda can and seal it. When your dog misbehaves, shake the can once. It will startle the dog, and halt his behavior. Once you do this a few times, your dog will start to realize that his behavior is unacceptable. Only shake the can once, if you do it multiple times your dog will desensitize.

Now that you are armed with the know how, it is time to take what you have learned and use it to get your naughty pup on the road to being a pet you can be proud of. The good news is, even the most frustrating of pups can be trained with a little gentle guidance and a good dose of tough love.
